The Longmont Police K9 Association has a mission to provide top-notch training and equipment for our K9 partners, strengthen community relationships, and educate the public about the K9’s abilities. Moreover, we aim to assist with medical care for retired K9’s.
We rely on the kind donations from our local community and fundraising events to achieve these goals. In 2016, we received 501(c)(3) recognition from the IRS (Tax ID #81-3611876).
Since our establishment, we have paid for various training classes and equipment, such as detection equipment, bite equipment, patrol vests, ballistic vests, and more. Additionally, we have been able to provide preventative medical treatment for our active K9 partners, enhancing their safety beyond what the department could have done alone.
Currently, we support four outstanding K9 teams in Longmont, Colorado. Our goal is to increase the number of K9 teams in the City of Longmont to protect its citizens and officers better. As of 2022, the population of Longmont is estimated to be 98,687. These K9 teams are responsible for safeguarding the entire city by splitting the week to provide as close to 24/7 coverage as possible. They assist various teams, such as Patrol, SWAT, Special Investigation Unit, Gang and Crime Suppression Unit, Detectives, and other Agencies. Our K9s are trained to locate illegal narcotics, locate evidence, track and apprehend suspects, conducting area searches and building searches.
